LAKE HALLIE, Wis. – A gun shop owner, Dan Marcon, confirmed he was on an apparent hit list found in the car of the man who assassinated Judge John Roemer last week in New Lisbon. Marcon said he was informed that he was on the list by the state Justice Department by telephone — even before he learned from news media that Judge Roemer had been killed. Marcin said the the investigator who called assured him he was not in any danger since the suspect was in custody. Marcon said the information confused him. At first he thought the threat might relate to his candidacy for sheriff of Chippewa County in November, but that didn’t seem right: His shop inLake Hallie is 100 miles and three counties away from New Lisbon. Later when he heard the assassin was Douglas Uhde and be saw his picture on the news, his mind went back to his 14 years as a corrections officer. He recalled writing up an inmate named Uhde for an incident, probably in 2008. It was “brief interaction,” Marcon said. His memory was vague, he said, noting that he wrote probably 200 in-house tickets during his work at the prison.
