LACRESCENT, Wis. — Congressman Jim Hagedorn, R-Minn., pitched his work for agriculture in a campaign visit. Hagedorn noted that commodity prices were up — corn more than $4, soy beans more than $10.50. Trade with China, he said, has helped farmers through the coronavirus. Hagedorn, his first term, told passersby on a LaCrescent sidewalk that he has sought to meet the needs small businesses, rural hospitals and farmers. Hagedorn did not bring up an office-spending scandal that has promoted a House ethics investigation. Nor did Hagedorn bring up that he had lost several corporate financial backers for suggesting that the Black Lives Matter movement was inconsistent with American values. These are issues posed by Dan Feehan, his Democratic challenger for re-election.
