LACROSSE, Wis. – A man near the Iowa border town of New Albin, James J. Gallup III, 52, was arrested after a truck stolen overnight in Onalaska was spotted parked in his neighborhood. Gallup denied being anywhere near Onalaska and stealing the truck, police said. Police had been looking for the truck after an Onalaska man reported being blow-torched in the face by an intruder who, it appeared, had been rifling through his goods and stolen the truck. In La Crosse County Garfield was charged with burglary, felony bail jumping, criminal damage to property, driving a vehicle without owner’s consent and attempting to flee an officer. He was also charged with being a fugitive.He was ordered held on $1,000 bond. Meanwhile, police in Houston County, across the river in Minnesota, said they wanted Garfield on a charge of driving a motor vehicle without consent.
