MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Trump ally Ron Johnson has decided to seek a third six-year term in the U.S. Senate, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported. The newspaper reported that Johnson was in the process of hiring a campaign manager and a lead consultant. In Washington the news site Politico and CBS News also reported that Johnson indeed was ready to announce his candidacy. They cited knowledgeable Republican sources. For months Johnson, age 66, has dodged questions about a third term. It was known that his wife Jane was against it. Re-election would keep him in office to age 72.
Twice elected. Defeated incumbent Russ Feingold in 2010, again in 2016.
Not without critics
Detractors call Johnson easily duped by conspiracy theories. He had doubts about CoVid vaccine risks. He held unfounded contrarian views, like the J6 riots being a bunch of happy patriotic tourists visiting the Capitol.
