MADISON, Wis. – A technical deadline issue may complicate the petition drive to put entertainer Kanye West on the Wisconsin ballot for president.The deadline for those signatures was Tuesday at 5 p.m., but technically the Trump lawyer delivering the petitions was a few minutes late because the commission’s door was locked as a coronavirus precaution. The Trump lawyer, Lane Ruhland, knocked a few minutes before 5 and then went back to her car and called to get in. The door was opened for her.

Who is Lane Ruhland?
Ruhland, a lawyer, has moved quietly in prominent Wisconsin GOP circles for years. She was campaign treasurer for former Republican Gov. Scott Walker and a deputy chief of staff for former Republican Attorney General Brad Schimel. She has been a lawyer for the state Republican Party and also the Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce, a big-buck supporter of Republican campaigns. Lately she has represented the Trump campaign in suing television station WJFW in Rhinelander for an ad produced by the liberal advocacy group Priorities U.S.A.
