WASHINGTON – Senator Amy Klobuchar reported that she has undergone treatment for breast cancer since April, so far successfully. Klobuchar said the Stage 1A cancer was caught early. A biopsy identified the cancer in April. She underwent a lumpectomy to remove the tumor, in her right breast, in May and began radiation therapy. In announcing her status online, Klobuchar said: “Of course this has been scary at times, since cancer is the word all of us fear, but at this point my doctors believe that my chances of developing cancer again are no greater than the average person.” Klobuchar, age 61, has become an influential voice in the Democratic Party after her 2020 presidential campaign. In the Senate she chairs the Senate Rules Committee.
