WASHINGTON — Senator Any Klobuchar signed on to a bill to require auto makers to install AM radios in new vehicles at no cost. Some manufacturers have dropped AM radios because of signal interference from onboard electronics and battery-powered motors. Klobuchar, a Minnesota Democrat, called AM essential for emergency alerts and local news, especially for farmers and rural people. Automakers need to find answers to keep AM reception compatible  with emerging car technology, she said.
