ROCHESTER Minn. – The radio conglomerate that owns radio station KROC is making a game of a remodeling project that initially included painting over a classic mural on the side of its building. The mural has been there, at 122 4th Street Southwest, since 1994. It’s a work by Rochester caricaturist Greg Wimmer. The station owner, Townsquare Media, had planned to paint the building green, but now listeners have been asked to weigh in. KROC goes back to 1935 when Gregory Gentling created the Southern Minnesota Broadcasting Company.

Times changing for better? Several owners since, after lots of broadcast industry deregulation, and consolidation the building now is home to stations with many monikers — KROC, KFIL, Quick Country, Y-105, Sasquatch and FUN.

Frequency whimsy . The pioneer station is 1340 on tbe dial. 1-3-4-0. Get it? Get it?

Wimmer. His murals abound in Rochester.
