COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The U.S. Climate Prediction Center cautioned to expect an intense winter because of a periodic La Nina coming from the Pacific. There’s a 95% chance of Nina events, the climatologists said. La Nina winters are more intense than usual and cooler with above-average snowfall. Also, La Ninas draw more frequent arctic outbreaks than usual. Also, the La Nina winter has a strong chance of continuing into spring. December, however, is expected to be relatively mild.
