LACROSSE, Wis. – The La Crosse Planning Commission is reviewing a bid for a $2.4 million project that includes docking space for additional cruise ships at the north end of Riverside Park. Mayor Mitch Reynolds said construction could begin in the fall. One goal, he said, is to accommodate a new 450-foot Viking Cruise Line ship. Viking is considering LaCrosse on itineraries next summer. Ships that how dock at LaCrosse are shorter than the new Viking vessel. The American Duchess of American Cruise Lines, which visited last week, is 341 feet long. The Duchess unloaded 165 guests on its LaCrosse stop. The Viking Mississippi accommodates 386 guests.
