WINONA Minn. – With his election to the state Legislature, Steve Jacob of Elba will need to resign from the Winona County Board. By law he can’t hold two elected offices at once. Sandra Suchla, who runs election as county auditor-treasurer, said Jacob’s open seat will require a special election. There may need also to be a primary election if there are multiple candidates. The next standard election date set by the state is February 14. The date will be determined by when Jacob resigns and the date that the county Board accepts the resignation. Jacob could keep his county salary of $24,200 running as late as January 2, the final day of his county term. As a state legislator he will earn $48,250 a year plus $66 a day for expenses when the Legislature is in session.
