RED WING, Minn. – A sheriff’s deputy responding to a car crash shot and injured a person and was himself wounded, Sheriff Marty Kelly said there had been an altercation after the crash near Bay Point Park. The wounded person was taken to the Red Wing hospital. The person’s condition was not known immediately. The sheriff said the deputy was not in any life-threatening peril but that he too was taken to the hospital. For the time being, the sheriff declined to explain what prompted the deputy to draw a weapon. This was about 1 p.m.
