LACROSSE, Wis. – Two Afghan evacuees accused of misconduct at the Fort McCoy resettlement camp face possible expulsion from the country, says LaCrosse immigration attorney Chuck Berendes. “The narrow path that they would have to sneak through to have nothing happen in terms of immigration consequences at this point is highly unlikely,” Berendes said in an interview with television station WXOW. Even if the men aren’t convicted in criminal court, he said, they still could be convicted in immigration court and be deported. “They’re in a tricky spot,” Berendes said. Bahrullah Noori and Mohammad Haroon Imaad appeared in federal court in Madison two weeks ago. Noori is charged with sex with two minors, one of whom alleges being forced. Imaad is accused of strangling and nearly suffocating his wife.
