ST. PAUL, Minn. – Funds to hire lifeguards and improve swimming pool safety was included have cleared the Legislature. The funding, proposed by State Senator Mike Goggin, R-Red Wing, allocates $220,000 for local governments, non-profit organizations, and recreation organizations for swimming lessons for at-risk and low-income children. The money also addresses a lifeguard shortage.
