WINONA, Minn. – A deputy saw a driver strike a curb, then weave over the center line. Better make a stop, the deputy told himself reflexively. The road was too slippery for a full range of field sobriety tests, like walking a straight line, but the deputy said the driver’s eyes were bloodshot, his speech slurred, and he was secreting tell-tale liquor odors. Too, the driver acknowledged having had three or four drinks. David Carroll Fish, 70, of Winona, was taken to jail where his blood-alcohol tested as too high to be driving — 0.09%. The stop was about 11:55 p.m. on Old Homer Road south of Winona.
