LACROSSE, Wis. – A La Crosse man, Kevin Michel Mulcahy, 26, was charged with burning an infant with a cigarette and leaving permanent scars. According to the criminal complaint, a social worker making a home welfare check in April saw the burns. According to the social worker, Mulcahy explained that the girl had rolled over on a cigarette on a stove and that, as he tried to reach her, he bumped her on the chest and a leg with the cigarette. Why didn’t Mulcahy get the infant to a hospital? It didn’t seem serious enough, he said, adding that he put ointment on the burns. Mulcahy was arrested Tuesday in a traffic search. Police said they found a meth pipe and several used and capped needles. In court he was released on $1,000 signature bond and told to come back May 26 for a preliminary hearing.
