WINONA, Minn. – An exhibit of 20th century British marine artists runs through June 13 at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum. On display are works from the museum’s collection by Roy Cross, Montague Dawson, Louis Dodd, Henry Scott and William Bishop. Among Dawson’s works is the Clipper Winona. Dawson was a yachtsman whose works appeared in the newspaper Sphere and at the Royal Naval Museum and the National Maritime Museum. He especially liked deep-water clippers and warships in stiff breezes n the late 1800s and 1900s. He is noted for strict accuracy in nautical detail. His paintings often sell for six figures.
