LACROSSE, Wis. – More than 170 people, mostly college students, turned out to search for a University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse senior who vanished a week ago in the downtown area. No trace was found of Halmud Faal, 25. Police divided a search area into 34 quadrants and advised searches what might be useful clues. Faal was last seen Sunday, February 20, at 3:37 a.m. He was walking south in the area of Front and Jay streets. Police began searching as soon as Faal was reported missing. The focus has been in Riverside Park.

Faal was from the Madison suburb of Sun Prairie. Family and friends joined the search. Among searchers: State representatives Samba Baldeh, D-Madison, and  and Jill Billings, D-LaCrosse.
