GOODVIEW, Minn. – Winona’ 6-1/2 inches of snow in recent days made for a soft rooftop landing at Max Conrad Field after Santa missed the runway. Unfazed, the Jolly Fellow straddled a gutter downspout and, a sack of gifts on his back, shimmied to the ground even while his peppermint propeller was still twirling in the wind. “Merry Christmas to all,” he chortled gleefully as he wandered off looking for good little boys and girls.

Where’s the chimney? Santa was scouting through the river fog for Winona chimneys for Christmas when he spotted the Max Conrad Field in the backwaters at Goodview. All smiles, he landed on the old terminal roof. Image: Steve Lunde
