EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The Rochester-based Mayo Clinic, which operates an Eau Claire hospital, claims it was billed wrongly for local property taxes and has demanded $1.1 million back. As a charitable nonprofit organization, Mayo says it’s exempt from taxes. The city earlier denied the Mayo claim, which prompted the lawsuit.
