MINNEAPOLIS – Police Chief Medaria Arradondo, the first black chief in Minneapolis and who was seen as an agent of change, announced he won’t accept a third term as chief. He’s 54. It’s time for new leadership, he said. Arradondo was a pivotal witness against police officer Derek Chauvin in the racially charged George Floyd murder trial. Arradondo became chief in 2017 after his predecessor mishandled the police shooting of Justine Ruszczyk Damond.

Arradondo. Four years as chief. Not seeking reappointment.
