WASHINGTON – Seventeen members of Congress, including Ilhan Omar, a Minneapolis Democrat, were arrested while protesting outside the U.S. Supreme Court. In all, Capitol police made 34 arrests. The protesters were objecting to the recent Court decision to allow state-level abortion bans. The protesters were booked at a District of Columbia jail although not fingerprinted. Each was told mail in a $50 fine. The charge: Blocking traffic. After returning to her Capitol office, Omar was unapologetic on the abortion issue. She told her online followers: I will continue to do everything in my power to raise the alarm about the assault on our reproductive rights.”
