ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota National Guard is deploying a 130-soldier company to Washington to help with security for Inaugural events. Colonel Scott Rohweder, the Guard’s operations director, said the deployment is nothing new. The Guard has sent members to previous inaugurations, he said. This time, however, with more possibly violent protests expected, things are different. The deployment request came from the National Guard Bureau in Washington, a centralized coordinating agency for state Guards nationwide. The Bureau has engaged an unusually large mobilization with10,000 troops in Washington by Saturday and an additional 5,000 on standby in the states. Jn Minnesota, Rohweder said he hasn’t received mission details. The Minnesota Guard is a is constantly preparing for contingency operations, he said. “We’re ready to support when called upon.”
