NELSON, Minn. – A Minnesota woman was seriously injured when she lost control of her motorcycle on a bridge over the Chippewa River backwaters. Melinda Peasha, 49, of Plymouth, was airlifted by a helicopter that landed on the Highway 35 right-of-way to take her 50 miles to a Rochester hospital. The impact of the crash tore off the front end of her bike. She was flung 50 feet. Deputies said that Peasha was wearing a helmet and protective gear.
Only landing spot. Swamps on both sides of Highway 35 gave the helicopter crew little choice but to land on the roadway.
Bike broke up. Front assembly snapped off on impact.
