WINONA, Minn. — The new Winona Family YMCA building is on schedule for completion in late October, said chief executive Janneke Sobeck. Occupancy should follow soon thereafter, she said. The $18 million, 65,000-square foot building, off Highway 61 adjacent to the Winona hospital, includes a six-lane pool, a child-care center, a gymnasium and racquetball courts. The new Y replaces a 1950s era building at the foot of the Interstate bridge at Winona and Second streets. The old building is scheduled for demolition and to be replaced by a parking lot for the Fastenal office building being built nearby. What about parking at the new Y? Twice what was available at the old hemmed-in Y.
