WINONA, Minn. – High-enrollment classes that have helped Winona State balance the books have been dropped. Classroom occupancy now is capped at 50 students whenever possible to help guard against Co-Vid spread, the university’s chief academic officer, Darrell Newton, said. For 20 years the university has scheduled mega-sections for as many as 440 students. These have been low-overhead introductory courses taught in auditoriums at the usual per-credit tuition. Newton said the 50-student cap complies with state Health Department guidance for mitigating CoVid-19.
