Minnesota delegation unanimous. In a roll call of the states at the Republican National convention, the party’s Minnesota chair, David Hann, pledged his delegates for Donald Trump for president. The nomination had already been sewed up by Forida in the alphabetical roll call. Nonetheless, every Minnesota delegate was riveted to the leaderboard.
Verbatim
Hamm: “Madam Secretary: The great state of Minnesota, the battleground state of Minnesota, which will elect a Republican for president for the first since 1972 this year, Minnesota, the first state to fight to preserve our nation in 1861, today to preserve our nation again, we Minnesotans proudly pledge all 39 of our delegates for our next president, Donald J. Trump.” In his excitement, Hann misspoke about 1972. He literally forgot Richard Nixon, 1969-1974; Gerald Ford, 1974-1977; Ronald Reagan, 1981-1989; George H.W. Bush, 1989-1993; George W. Bush, 2001-2009; and Trump, 2017-2021. He more likely meant that Minnesota hadn’t gone Republican for president since 1972, which is correct.
