MADISON, Wis. – Republican legislators renewed accusations that the state Safety and Professional Services Department is taking too long to issue licenses. State Senator Alberta Darling, R-River Hills, said the wait time for professional licenses is averaging 45 days. She blamed Governor Tony Evers for “failed leadership.” Delays had been as long as 80 days during the CoVid crisis. About Darling’s charge, state workforce chief Mike Tierney, said Republicans in the Legislature haven’t sufficiently funded the department to run efficiently. Six people are tasked with handling as many as 4,400 calls per week, he said.
