WINONA, Minn. – With Democrats controlling both houses of the Minnesota Legislature beginning in January, Representative Gene Pelowski, D-Winona, expects that RGW log-jammed state revenue surplus can be freed quickly and put to use. The $9 billion surpLus was stalled this year in power-play stubbornNess against compromise between Republicans and Democrats. Pelowski said to expect a resolution of the budget surplus issue by February at the latest. He said Democratic priorities for the surplus include:
> Eliminating state taxes on Social Security income.
> Catching up on special education funding.
> Boosting pay for aides serving people with disabilities.

Pelowski committees
Democrats are caucusing privately to organize themselves for the 2023 legislative sessions. This includes doling out committee assignment. Pelowski, now with nine House terms of seniority. has rotated through many committees over the years. Last session he chaired the House industrial education committee. He also served on the rules committee, the finance and elections committee, and the ways and means committee.
