WESTBY, Wis. – Two drivers survived a collision at a rural intersection three miles southwest of town. So did two dogs in one of the cars, but one dog needed a trip to a veterinarian for injuries. The accident was shortly before 3 p.m. at West Smith and Barstad Road. Officers said that Grace Kimball, 19, of Viroqua, was northbound on Barstad Road, failed to stop at the stop sign, and struck a westbound car driven by Kermit Bekkum, 82, of rural Westby. Kimball’s vehicle came to rest on West Smith Road, while Bekkum’s traveled into the ditch and came to rest in a field. Kimball and Bekkum were wearing seatbelts. Not so Bekkum’s two small dogs.
