CHASKA, Minn. – Police fatally shot a man who held a woman at gunpoint while leading them on a chase that ended on the Mendota Bridge over the Minnesota River near the Minneapolis airport. The man continued to hold the woman at gunpoint during negotiations, said Sheriff Jason Kamerud. Eventually he was shot. The woman was emotionally distraught but not injured, the sheriff said. The drama began about 12:45 a.m. at a domestic disturbance in Chaska. A man was threatening to shoot a woman, Kamerud said. The man, later identified as Arlan Kaleb Schultz, 31, of the inner-0ring south suburb Richfield, drove off with the woman. Police pursued. The chase went from one freeway to another until police laid down tire-deflating spikes on the Mendota Bridge. The bridge was reopened before the rush hour.
