
New warship. The U.S.S. Minneapolis-St. Paul was 1,400 miles through the St. Lawrence Seaway en route to its home port in Florida.
MASSENA, N.Y. – Sailors on the U.S.S. Minneapolis-St. Paul rescued a stranded boater near Cat Island Shoal in the St. Lawrence River. The Minnesota-namesake ship, commissioned rwo weeks earlier in Duluth was headed to the Atlantic when the SOS signal came in. The distressed boat was taking in water and sinking. Commander Alfonza White diverted the warship and sent a rigid-hull inflatable to rescue the boater.
