WINONA Minn. – Hardly any barges have been left in the Winona fleeting harbor for winter. The usual pair of harbor tugs remain. These are the Suland, built in 1978, and the White Angel, built in 1979. Both are 800 horsepower twin-screw vessels. Many coats of paint ago the Suland carried the names Miss Chantel and Jennifer Marie. Both the Suland and White Angel are owned by American River Transport of St. Louis, a subsidiary of the multinational food processing and commodities trading conglomerate Archer Daniels Midland. ADM, with headquarters in Chicago, has 38,000 employees worldwide, 270 plants and 420 crop procurement facilities, and annual revenue of $650 billion. It processes cereal grains for use in food, beverages, animal feed, nutraceutical and industrial products. ADM is 54th on the Fortune list of the largest U.S. corporations.
