LACROSSE, Wis. – A veteran business reporter LaCrosse Tribune, Steve Cahalan, died at age 73. His forte was local business — openings, closings, ownership changs, mergers. His Sunday roundups were so widely followed that he survived waves of staff layoffs and cutbacks ordered by financially strained Lee Enterprises, which owns the Tribune. His weekly columns were must-reads. Cahalan studied journalism at the University of Missouri and held a master’s degree. His early career was at the the Clinton Herald in Iowa, the Decatur Herald and Review in Illinois, and the Montana Standard in Butte. He moved the LaCrosse Tribune 1978.
