WINONA, Minn. – Starting Monday the Leighton radio chain will launch an all-sports station in Winona. Leighton’s Winona manager, Jim Alligeier, said the station will use the call letters KWMN and replace the company’s country station K-HWK at channel 99.3. The station will be home for Winona Winhawks, Cotter Ramblers, and Rushford-Peterson Trojans football and basketball, he said. The station will also pipe in nationally syndicated Fox Sports talkers Dan Patrick, Colin Cowherd and Doug Gottlieb. The station also will be the area’s home for Minnesota Golden Gopher football and basketball, Minnesota Timberwolves, Minnesota Wild, college football and the NFL, Alligeier said. The company will maintain KHWK-AM at 1380 with country music.

Alligeier. Calls reformatted station the Winona Sports Network, even though not a network but a single station. It’s all marketing. Yes, he knows better.
