ST. PAUL, Minn. – Anyone considering relocating should look to Winona, the city community development specialist said. Nick Larson called Winona the state’s Number 1 destination for homeowners. Of homeowners moving within the state, 29.8% chose Winona, Larson said. Why? He cited the universities, manufacturing, local businesses and upticks in telecommuting from home. There is reasonably-priced housing, he said. Many homes range from $100,000 to $250,000, Larson said: “The majority of them have pending sales once the house hits the market. They’re scooped up right away because it’s very hot and very competitive.” He also cited a diverse range of housing, including rentals and condos:

> 250 units in new apartment complexes since 2006.

> 41 low-income units on Mankato Avenue, just off of Sarnia, nearing completion.

> 28 units in the pending albeit contentious Cedar Brook Cooperative up West Burns Valley but near the city.
