LAMOILLE Minn. – The ice crust has set in enough for Mississippi River ice-fishing. Ice anglers are allowed two fishing lines through the ice and must stay within 200 feet of tip-ups. For bluegill the season goes to February 15 with a daily limit of 30. For bass the limit is six.

Cold day on the river. Lining the shoulder of U.S. Highway 61 are dozen-plus pickups, obviously the transportation de riguer of ice anglers, albeit a lone sedan. The anglers tread over the Canadian Pacific tracks to the Lock and Dam Number 6 levee that crosses to Trempealeau. They drill their holes into the ice-covered still waters on the levee downside.
