WINONA, Minn. – Winona Schools reported eight new Covid cases in its weekly update. There were 13 newly reported quarantines. School district spokesperson John Casper said the cases are being transmitted in the community. “What we’re finding is these positive cases are not as a result of transmission in the schools,” Casper said in a KWNO radio interview. “If a student tests positive and we identify the close contacts who are then sent home. Those students have not been coming back as positives.” Casper credited students and staff for following Covid mitigation precautions to slow the spread of the virus. The 2,800-student district has reported 38 Covid cases and 80 new quarantines since fall began.
