ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Minnesota Senate included $2 million to construct a paved trail from Levee Park to the Bud King ice arena in a capital projects bonding bill. Also included was $750,000 to buy land for a new county jail. The provisions, both earlier approved by the House, cleared the Senate 64-3. The measure now goes to Governor Tim Walz for his signature. In all, the bill authorizes $1.9 billion for acquisition, construction and repairs to the state’s physical property. Other southeast Minnesota projects in the bill:
> $7 million for Caledonia for a new wastewater treatment plan.
> $1.4 million forf Lanesboro wastewater treatment plant.

What’s missing
Winona State University had sought funds for a $47 million classroom building, but funding was skipped in legislative paring of fund requests. The 73,000-square foot building, called the Center for Interdisciplinary Collaboration, Engagement & Learning, or CICEL for short, would replace again Gildemeister and Watkins halls. The proposal had support of Governor Tim Walz.
