ROCHESTER, Minn. — A rural Chatfield man has been charged with killing two dogs belonging to neighbors. The criminal complaint quotes Craig Allen Reichel, 67, as shooting Bertha, a 1-½ year-old Great Pyrenees, and Sadie, a 7-year-old Goldendoodle, because they were chasing deer and threatening his own dogs. The dogs’ bodies were found the morning of January 6 after a sheriff’s deputy, a game warden and the dogs’ owners followed a blood trail from a deer carcass pile on Reichel’s property. Both dogs were dead from multiple gunshot wounds. The allegations could mean two years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
