WINONA, Minn. – A LaCrosse woman who admitted to rolling $2,100 of merchandise out of Walmart in a shopping cart without paying now is accused also of shoplifting $2,200 from the nearby Target general store. This perhaps is in addition to dropping $1,000 of Walmart goods as she fled that store. Too, there is $1,000 in Walmart goods later found stashed outside in plastic-wrapped wood-chip stack. The latest charge against Carly Polak, 22, is from Target for a brazen theft on September15 – a week before her Walmart arrest. The modus operandi was the same and so too the targeted merchandise: Mostly electronic items including Ring doorbell cameras and Amazon Alexa gear. Target said that a stacked-high cart was maneuvered around the checkout lanes. When a clerk spotted security tags on the items and asked for a receipt, the store said, the thief claimed that she had already paid for them and kept on going. In all, Polak faces three felony theft counts.
