ST. PAUL, Minn. — Minnesota secretary of state, Steve Simon, who runs elections for the whole state, called allegations of irregularities in Hubbard County “extremely serious.” A thorough investigation is needed, Simon said. A precinct election judge for a rural township has been charged with allowing 11 people to vote without proper registration. That’s more than 10% of the township’s population. Said Simon: “Election judges take an oath to administer elections in accordance with the law. A deliberate failure to do so is unlawful and a betrayal of the public trust.” Neither Kay Rave, the county’s election administrator, nor Timothy Michael Scouton, the accused township election judge, has commented on the charge.
