WINONA, Minn. – Firefighters responding to a fire call at a house the 50 block of King Street found smoke coming from nehind a wall on a stairway. They disconnected a circuit breaker that had tripped for the second floor and extinguished the fire with with a light hose. They remained on scene an hour to check that the fire as indeed out. The homeowner earlier had shut off a gas meter valve. Smoke damage was light. There were no injuries. The fire was about 12:30 p.m.
