HARMONY, Minn. – The state Department of Transportation plans prescribed roadside burns in Fillmore and Mower counties. Crews on Highway 52 south of Harmony and on Highway 56 near LeRoy will be burning grassland and vegetation along many roadsides to provide optimal vegetation health.

Why burn

Prescribed burns create safe clear zones, stabilize soil, convey runoff, and treat stormwater runoff. Burns also help preserve rare species and promote tall native grasses and other plants that trap blowing snow and prevent drifting.
