MADISON, Wis. — The chief of the Capitol Police, David Erwin, told state legislators to stay away from the Capitol this weekend because of elevated concern about terrorist raids. “There continues to be active social media commentary regarding the threat of ongoing unrest,” Erwin said. Police will have an “increased presence” at the Capitol into next week, Erwin said. He added, though, that he wasn’t aware of specific credible threats to legislators. Even so, he encouraged senators and assembly members to remove personal information, such as home addresses, from social media accounts.
