LINCOLN, Neb. — The drought in Winona County has ended with a series of downpours and thunderstorms in the first few days of August, the National Drought Mitigation Center reported. Adjacent areas of Houston, Fillmore and Wabasha countires also are safe, at least of the time being. Meanwhile, northwest Minnesota remans tinder dry with crops in jeopardy. Statewide, nearly 70% of Minnesota is experiencing severe drought or worse. More than 95% has at least moderate drought.
