MINNEAPOLIS – A southwest Minnesota farmer was sentenced to 12 months in prison for selling 15,000 pounds of a soybean crop that he also was using as collateral on a federal farm loan. The charge against Mark Alan Engelkes, 54, of Slatyon, was fraud. Englekes also was ordered to repay other loans for a total of $435,000. About the soybeans, prosecutors said Englkes had been ordered not to move or dispose of the crop until the loan was repaid but did anyway. Engelkes farms about 30 miles north of Worthington.
