MINNEAPOLIS – The University of St. Thomas has suspended sophomore Gisela Medina until charges of sex-trafficking are resolved. Medina had led the campus student Republican club. A university spokesperson said: “We pray for the victims. Under our student code of conduct, St. Thomas students charged with a felony will be interim suspended pending further proceedings.”

The university is a private Catholic college that dates to 1885. With 9,800 students, it’s the largest private traditional university in the state. There are campuses in Minneapolis and St. Paul. Its namesake is Medieval theologian and philosopher Thomas Aquinas, who is the patron saint of students.
