MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The state military veterans policy director, Curtis Schmitt Jr., an appointee of Democratic Governor Tony Evers, resigned amid allegations of possessing child pornography. The resignation followed a complaint filed by Republican gubernatorial candidate Kevin Nicholson. Schmitt was charged on three counts in January and was asked.by Evers to resign. He ignored the request. Under Wisconsin law, a gubernatorial appointee can be forced out only if a third party, like Nicholson, files a complaint.
