LACROSSE, Wis. – Police spotted the face of the “Hatched Baby” artwork on a front lawn on King Street and recovered it. The face apparently had been discarded as word spread that the investigation was intensifying into the vandalism that defaced the statue, apparently after Third Street bars closed nearly Sunday. Police said the owner of the house, at 1003 King Street, was unaware how the face came to be were it was. The recovery was about 8:20 a.m. The house is in a campus housing neighborhood. So far, police said, no suspects have been identified.
